Now it will be easier for consumers who shop e-shop to choose a fossil-free delivery. On the initiative of Swedish Trade, e-retailers and carriers agree on a common definition for fossil-free delivery. It is the first step in work on a number of industry-wide delivery definitions. The work has been carried out by Swedish Trade with the support of ASTER.
Green choice, environmentally smart, good choice, sustainable. These are some of the different concepts that consumers today encounter when choosing delivery options for online purchases. All of these choices not only create confusion for consumers, but have also caused frustration from the industry, which has lacked a common terminology around the meaning of the terms.
At D-Congress in Gothenburg on October 27, 2021, Svensk Handel's subsidiary Svensk Digital Handel and ASTER gathered ten e-commerce companies and ten carriers for a workshop to discuss the conditions for forming a common definition around what a fossil-free delivery is. Today, one year later, the industry agreement is ready and available for signature at Swedish Trade. Becoming part of this collaboration is free of charge and is based on an agreement between the e-tailer and carrier to enable fossil-free deliveries to consumers.
The industry agreement for fossil-free deliveries clarifies the concept of fossil-free delivery and requires that other environmental terms used in the checkout be removed. A few exceptions are made for certifications such as the Swan's upcoming label for sustainable e-commerce transport.
The work has been carried out jointly by Swedish Digital Trade and ASTER (Alliance for Sustainable E-commerce) together with merchants and carriers.
